Restructuring and turnaround

Business in difficulty? Restructuring and turnaround for mid-sized companies

When continuity is under pressure, every week counts. We quickly bring calm and clarity, secure liquidity and work out a realistic recovery plan with you, your shareholders and funders. Then we deliver it, taking the lead in the business where needed.

Cash flow problems: first get control of cash

With liquidity problems the first aim is to buy time. Within days we draw up a 13-week cash flow forecast so you know where you stand. Then we act immediately: releasing working capital, agreeing payment terms with suppliers and the tax authority, and preparing the conversation with the bank based on facts.

Signs your business is in difficulty

  • The overdraft is structurally at its limit.
  • Suppliers ask for prepayment or shorten payment terms.
  • Bank covenants are (nearly) breached.
  • Your file has been transferred to the bank's special assets unit.
  • Margins fall while revenue holds steady or grows.
  • The management team spends most of its time firefighting.

Recognise two or more of these? Then it is wise to act now. The earlier you act, the more options you have.

Restructuring for mid-sized companies: operational and financial

A lasting restructuring tackles two sides at once. Operational: cost structure, loss-making products or customers, organisation and processes. Financial: the balance sheet and funding, from refinancing and new agreements with the bank to, where necessary, a creditor arrangement under the Dutch WHOA scheme. For the legal side we work with specialist lawyers from our network.

Turnaround management: we take responsibility

A turnaround needs someone who decides and delivers. Marcus Preijde has more than twenty years of experience with operational and financial restructurings in the Netherlands and abroad. Where needed we act as interim manager or Chief Restructuring Officer, alongside or within the board.

  3. Recovery plan

  4. Delivery and embedding

Implementing the measures, measuring results and bringing the business back to a healthy position.

Frequently asked questions

My bank has moved my business to its special assets unit. What now?

Keep talking and bring facts: a current cash forecast and a credible plan. The bank often asks for an Independent Business Review. We can carry it out and then help you deliver the plan.

What is the WHOA?

The Dutch Act on Court Confirmation of Extrajudicial Restructuring Plans (WHOA) allows a company to agree a plan with creditors outside bankruptcy, even if not all creditors agree. It is a powerful tool that needs careful preparation.

How quickly can Accellium start?

In urgent situations we move fast. Call Marcus directly on +31 6 51 07 29 66 for a first confidential conversation.

Does restructuring always mean redundancies?

No. The improvement often lies in pricing, product mix, working capital and processes. Where staffing measures are needed, we make sure they are carried out with care.
